The weather is beautiful outside, the kids are out of school and the city is buzzing with events. That can only mean summer has officially begun.Time to think of having fun on the road and… summer travel safety tips.

With the summer season under way, it is also the beginning of the summer travel season. When traveling this summer, here a few things to keep in mind to make sure that your trip is safe, secure and filled with a lot of fun. Activate your Alarm when travelling anywhere this summer, even if it’s only for a day or a couple of hours, make sure to arm your alarm system and protect your property.

“The summer season is one of the most vulnerable periods for your home so arming your alarm system is it’s best defense against burglars who are looking for a quick heist. Never take a chance when it comes to protecting your home. Remember, it takes just seconds to break in and complete a burglary.” Allan Baum

Drive Safe When traveling anywhere by car, make sure that you have the essentials packed and ready: spare tire, car essentials, emergency kit, etc. Also, remember to drive safe when you’re on the road. Be sure to follow the signs carefully and be aware of constructions that may be going on. Lastly, never drink and drive. Always have a designated driver ready.

Vacation-Travel-familyBe Prepared When traveling this summer, make sure that you’re prepared. Have all maps handy and the routes planned out so that you’re not lost along the way. Keep all medications, travel documents and money in a safe secure place, that’s accessible to you and impossible for others to find. Also, make sure that you have an emergency kit handy and ready. You never know when an accident will happen. And carry plenty of water.

Remember the Insurance When traveling anywhere this summer, whether it’s up to the cottage or a weekend in Florida, surprises can happen at any time. Since unexpected surprises can crop up at any moment, make sure that you carry or purchase travel insurance before leaving for your vacation. Having travel insurance on any vacation gives you the peace of mind that your medical or travel emergencies will be taken care of. Also, remember to inform your credit card company of your upcoming travels. If you plan to use your credit card will on vacation, giving them a heads up will let them know that it’s you who’s using the card and that it hasn’t been stolen. Having a fun and exciting summer is on everyone’s mind this year but having a summer full of fun and entertainment that is also safe makes it that more memorable.

Safe travels!
